Monday 23rd September - Loire Valley, France
We're kicking off our new series with a journey through the Loire Valley in France. Explore this historic wine making region, guided by one of VineTrail's specialist Sommeliers Alessandra Saponara, whose shining CV includes Fera at Claridge's and the Simon Rogan group.
Known for its cool climate influenced by its location on the Loire river, the valley has garnered international reputation thanks to its Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé Eastern appellations. However, the selection of wines on offer throughout the evening will also introduce you to lesser known western parts of the region.
Look forward to a thoughtful menu inspired by each unique point of your trail through the Loire Valley. Start with the likes of Morel mushroom tartlets, before enjoying the rich flavours of dishes including Pot roast partridge wrapped in bacon and Tarte tatin with calvados crème.
MONDAY 28th October - Australia
It's not news, that Australia offers a wide range of styles and grape varietals. With over 200 years of viticulture and winemaking, Australia has a rich vine and family history to explore. During an evening hosted by our wine consultant Emily Harman, we'll be celebrating the diversity of the country's wine.
Emily has 18 years of experience within the food and beverage industry, working for the likes of Xavier Rousset and The Zetter Group. She has worked across a variety of countries and markets around the world, which included five years living in Australia. Here, she picked up most of her wine knowledge working as a Sommelier at one of the country's best restaurants, Attica in Melbourne.
Begin your evening with a glass of Mount Barker Riesling, before Emily guides you through her favourite wines from Australia's most iconic wine regions - Yarra Valley Chardonnay, Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon to Rutherglen Muscat and Clare Valley Cordon Cut Riesling. The four-course menu will showcase dishes from down under, including Vegemite and smoked chicken toasties.
Monday 18th November - Duoro, Portugal
In the past two decades the wines of Portugal have had a reinvention thanks to the pioneering work of winemakers such as Dirk Niepoort. Whether you are a fan of the powerful fortified wines Portugal is famous for or they are only reserved for Christmas Day lunch, our Douro dinner will present the huge diversity of styles that are now produced that will hopefully change your perception of the wines from this region.
As well as some fine and rare fortified wines, we will also be tasting some still wines from the Douro Valley which really represent the terroir of the region. Firmdale Group Executive Chef Joe Fox and Port expert Pedro Paulo will team up to deliver a menu and wine selection suitably celebratory for the festive season.
In addition to a reinvention of the traditional port and tonic aperitif, you will also enjoy wines such as Quinta de la Rosa’s Reserva red paired with traditional Portuguese dishes that will transport you to the terraced vineyards of the Douro.
